I am a contemporary textile artist based in Central Scotland whose practice is deeply inspired by nature and the environment. My creative journey began with painting and drawing, but during my time in college I discovered a passion for textiles and the diverse techniques that allow for the creation of texture and surface effects. Slow stitch, machine stitching, and embroidery have become central to my work; while painting and printing continue to inform my design process.
Social history is an important influence on my practice. I often incorporate memories and lived experiences into my designs and enjoy engaging with others to draw out their stories. Text and cursive handwriting frequently appear in my work as a means of preserving and communicating these narratives. As a runner and hill walker, I am acutely aware of the natural world and the impact of climate change, which has led me to embrace sustainable approaches such as recycling, repurposing, and working with found objects and vintage materials. More recently, I have developed a strong interest in natural dyeing, experimenting with organic materials to achieve subtle, nuanced colour palettes that reflect my environmental concerns.
