What We Become

Vintage lace, yarn, cyanotype

Based on the theme of ‘Transformation’ this series of artworks are inspired by a book of poetry written by women in Cornton Vale Women’s Prison - ‘What We Become’ - and was created using donated Victorian lace destined for landfill.

The first piece of the artwork is a cyanotype toned cotton which shows a piece of poetry ripped apart. The woven lace of the second piece is a colour gradation through stages of deterioration. Then the final piece brings us back to a near perfect state of wisdom through a poem in entirety and a perfect lace collar.
